We suggest you to download and install VLC Using Official PPA. Type these command into your terminal
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/stable-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install vlc
or, to install nightly build add these PPA
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/master-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install vlc
This PPA will update your VLC stable version when available so when you perform update your Linux the VLC will also updated automatically. Additional : if you are not updating Linux for long time may be you have to update all of installed software.
